Why We Recommend Northstar Golf Course
One of the reasons we recommend Northstar Golf Course so often is because it appeals to such a wide range of golfers. If you’re new to the game, you’ll find a welcoming resort atmosphere, practice facilities, lessons, and a course that’s enjoyable without feeling intimidating. If you’ve been playing for years, you’ll appreciate a layout that rewards thoughtful shot selection and keeps every round interesting.
Designed by Robert Muir Graves, Northstar combines a distinctive links-style front nine with a scenic mountain back nine, creating a round that’s unlike many other courses in North Lake Tahoe. Tree-lined fairways, well-placed bunkers, gentle elevation changes, and beautifully maintained greens encourage strategy over sheer distance, making it just as satisfying for experienced golfers as it is for casual players.
Of course, it’s not just the golf that keeps us coming back. The course winds through towering pines and open mountain meadows, with beautiful views around nearly every corner. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a summer morning outdoors, Northstar delivers the kind of round that reminds you why mountain golf is so special.
Planning Your Round
Summer mornings are our favourite time to play. Temperatures are comfortable, the course is typically at its quietest, and the mountain scenery is especially beautiful before the afternoon sun arrives.
If you’re visiting during peak summer, we recommend booking your tee time in advance. Bringing an extra layer is also a good idea, as mornings at elevation can be surprisingly cool before warming up later in the day.
